“All of God’s attributes play an important role in describing the nature and the character of God. But the attribute holy stands out as the most preeminent. Holy means “absolute purity.” God cannot be touched or tainted by sin in any way. He is complete and total moral perfection. Holiness is what separates God and makes Him distinct from anything or anyone else. But even these explanations are inadequate. Holy goes beyond purity and being set apart. Holy describes the transcendence of God. It embodies the mystery of His awesome nature. It causes us to approach God with reverence, awe and wonder. Holy is who God is. It is the only attribute that is repeated in Scripture. (A word repeated is for the purpose of emphasis.) Holy is unique in that it permeates throughout all the attributes. God’s power is holy. God’s presence is holy. God’s love is holy. God’s jealously is holy. God’s mercy is holy. Holy is the attribute that most describes who God is.”
